2024 Morel Sightings Map
As usual, the 2024 Morel season had its highs and lows. Take a gander at the map and you’ll see the successes sent in during the year. Stubbled upon a black morel in Canmore Alberta today (June 5, 2024) June 2, 2024 black morels in Dryden, Ontario Canada I found one morel this year and couldn’t be happier. It measured roughly 16 inches and weighed 1.05 pounds. Note : I wear size 13 boots. Found 5/29/24 in Jackson New Hampshire. 03846 Superior Hiking Trail Morels - Found a good bunch of black morels in SHT in MN MAY 24, 2024 - Found them all in a small grove of Aspen trees in the middle of a farmer's field. 13 Yellow morels and one gray found in cottonwood forest in south Bismarck after heavy storm. Found on edge of path and in and around leaf and grass litter amongst rotten logs. Ground was moist. One big morel found near Richardton, ND 58652 Stittsville Ontario Canada k2s - May 24 2024 - Suburban park found 6 morels still cool - -patches of snow - mixed pine Giant Yellow Morels First time I have found them here. Super strange location, between a school and a gas tank. The closet trees were 20+ feet away. (Pines). This has been a unusually warm, early year here. Four mushrooms only. Morels! Found near the stump of an ash tree that was removed last year. Park with a river and lots of deciduous trees. Morels a bit past their prime. Bismarck Morels - Near large Cottonwood Trees Found four morels on a cutoff stump it was cut years ago don't remember what kind of tree. Also it rained two days before I found em!! Found 14 large yellows under one Ash tree. May 18th Around dead Burch and dead elm Michigan morels - A nice couple clumps near a sunny hillside. Under maples - 72 degrees, under maples, light rain off and on for week. 12 morels Biggest morel of the season! 12 under ash trees - Under ash trees. Morels found in yard - Found two grey morels right next to the house in the grass about 2 ft from crabapple tree and lilac bush. May 17th at 7:30 am. been warm and wet from rains. First time finding them!!! Found adjacent to peony while weeding 53120 East Troy wi 70 degrees. Base of live oak Growing under Japanese Barberry- on a hillside with lots of elms around. Morel Mushrooms are out on the St. Croix - Found on Southern facing hills in the river valley. Near Afton, MN. Not near any obvious newly downed elms or anything. By itself. Wow, my first ever!!! - Excited to find just one morel, growing from moss. Wooded area behind old strip mall. Mixed hardwoods but a fruit tree that didn't look very old and lots of conifers. Minnehaha County, South Dakota - Weather: sunny 75, cool breeze, rained several days ago, soil was very soft beneath Leaf cover In my backyard. There we a couple more a few feet away but they’ve disappeared. First noticed them two days ago. We’re located in Edgartown MA and we have a large Tulip tree in our backyard. Cool and overcast here, occasional rain. Hardly any 'sunburnt' morels out on May 12!
Jumbo morels - Perfect conditions for the area. 76° and sunny today with intermittent rain the past day, and days intermittently. These morels were found at a low elevation. Bottom of a forest floor. Hills surrounding. Dense coverage. I used my hiking stick to brush through foliage in known past morel areas. I can't attach pictures to this, the files of the images are to big. I'm sorry. Get out and hunt the low elevations now. This is the best year I've ever had finding morels thanks to the weather, lots of rain and temperatures in the low to mid 70's with overnight lows in the 40's.
I didn't report it right away but I noticed no one else has in area.. this was at the end of April.
Trees: 4ft diameter cottonwood
Status: second season ever seeing morels in Minnehaha County, found only 4 under the largest cottonwood in the area searched. Rain and cool nighttime temps on the way may help promote growth but producing areas remain sporadic at best. A week left at best
