2019 Sightings Map

The 2019 Morel season has slipped by… The first sighting of the season was reported in mid January with what some might refer to as a “landscape morel” – it goes without saying – the 2019 map at that point was officially open for business! As spring progressed the morels were heading north and as they made their migration the overall feeling of a pretty good year in 2019 was in full swing . All-in-all it was a typical morel season in general as some regions struggled, while others were having a blue ribbon type of year. You can get the summary by hitting The 2019 Morel Season Summary page and get the more detailed .

The Great Morel would like to thank each and everyone of you who contributed to help make the sightings maps the place to report! Don’t forget to visit The Morel Store for those special occasions and gift ideas for the Shroomer in your life.

If you have issues with the latest sightings markers, try un-checking a month in the bottom left corner of the map and then rechecking the box next to the month.  It should refresh correctly.

There are plenty of features on the new interactive map – zoom, filter by month, full screen and more. Below the map you can find a table listing of the 20 most recent sightings along with images and notes if they were sent – there is a “more pages” button at the bottom of this table.

We have never seen morels in our yard of ponderosa pine and grassland. This is the first time to see a morel. Our winter, believe it or not, lasted into May with snowstorms even then and we have had above average cold and rain especially in April and May.
