2023 Morel Sightings Map
As usual, the 2023 Morel season had its highs and lows. Take a gander at the map and you’ll see the successes sent in during the year. Found some dry but still good morels, we've had a ton of rain this month - Albert lea Minnesota Giant greys Boonville Morel Sighting - Light sprinkle outside and cloudy weather all day. Temps haven't reached over 65 today. Sighting and conditions - Sunday 7th of April, pretty dry conditions, mild weather. Found two dozen morels in a spot that produces them every year. Found a couple old mushrooms that must of come up late March. Wentworth-Nord on May 25 SE Utah sighting - Dark Canyon Wilderness Area Monticello, UT ~7,000 ft, around narrow leaf cottonwood grove with downed wood Half-frees - Along creek beds, 7,200’, they were past prime & filled with mold. To dry! Needed rain. Not good this yr. Everything i found early was very small and dried out before pickable size.Found these on the 26th of may dry as a bone. Checked back on the 2nd of june after a week of no rain but high humidity and found nothing. Very bad yr. Maybe next yr!! Found at 3500 elevation. Sunny day, only found one. Michigan morels - Dry conditions but morels persist, found on Memorial Day. Crazy mosquito-y Yellow Morel in the Pasture - Carberry, Manitoba, Canada. Quite warm this week 30°+. Rain just as hunt ended. Then storm followed. Only found one – first hunt, and rushed! Under a dead tree (species tbd – photo). We’ll go back to look for more tomorrow. Thankful to have 100 acres of trees pasture at my parents. Excited to find (one) on the first (very quick) try! Used “picture mushroom” app to confirm a yellow morel. Alberta Canada - Old cut area (>1 yr). Season generally dry to date. Limited findings. Morels ND - Small blondes. Some drying out. Have not had much rain. More than usual moisture this spring. Found a half dozen or so, twice this week at the 4700' elevation. sunny in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit spring May 5, 2023 in the grass. Sunny and cooler. morels Omro, WI - 65 degrees and sunny, public land, 60 yards from road 5/25/23. Popped up after a week of rain. 4 morels found today - Extremely dry conditions. Found them in peat moss areas. The morels were very dry. Found 21 in a short 30 minute walk in the woods. Michigan morels - A little dry but morel season is on time. Early risers - Before any rain these few two probably made it up from the moisture of the river edge. 5/21. Stearns County One lone soldier promising finds after several dearthy years. Fire morels - 3 year old burn, 5k ft Finally Morels - Forest twt - Found this weekend in several locations Morels finally The hand size Morel was growing under a bunch of dry Grass not really visible close. Flush following periods of rain and temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Mixed woods with well-drained soil, balsam poplar, trembling aspen, and balsam fir. Big crop - They came out as the lilacs were blooming, by elm stumps at the edge of a forest, recent rain fall. Polk County Morels - 30+ in the bag. Found 12 total, on North slope at the top of a hill. Moral Mushrooms in Sherburne County Foraged Four Morels on May 20th and One More on May 21st. Found in foliage nearby elms and elder trees, facing SE, hidden in tall grass several feet away from marshland. Morel mushroom found lake arrowhead ca. Starts country - Albany area of Stearns county - South slopes, hiding in leaves.
