The morel sighting maps are a great way to help each other out a little. Morel hunters often refer to the maps as the morel progression maps, and they have always been a favorite. The Great Morel is often asked “Is it time yet?” or “Are there morel sightings in my neck of the woods?” The maps are a great resource on when one might begin their foraging adventure.
If you would like to submit a sighting, the guidelines are pretty simple, City, State, Zip code, along with and date found. If you want to add any additional information such as county, weather conditions, or an image that is fine (two-image limit). Sightings will be posted periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season.

2024 Morel Sightings Map
The 2024 Morel season is on! The first official Southeast report came in from Georgia in late February and the reports have been strong. The spring migration of the morel has been early, early, early – a common phrase from morel hunters reporting to the map. That being said, the morel season is upon us!

Note: the sighting reports are updated periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season. Markers are dropped on the map by Zip and or Town name, not actual GPS coordinates.
There are plenty of features on the interactive map – double click on images to open full size, zoom, filter by month, full screen and more. Below the map you can find a table listing of the 40 most recent sightings along with images and notes if they were sent – there is a “more pages” button at the bottom of this table. If you have issues not seeing the latest sightings markers, try un-checking a month in the bottom left corner of the map and then rechecking the box next to the month. It should refresh correctly.

 | 2 3/4 pounds of whites under one elm tree - I was lucky enough to find an elm that was in peak morel producing mode. I managed to find 2 3/4lbs of nice white morels. The black morels came from the top of the mountain.

| Morel sighting - Saw these two morels this early evening on a local walk after the storm passed through the area.

| Wamego, KS - Still dry, had a little rain but not enough. Found 3 lbs. in about 45 minutes in open grassy areas that were exposed to the rain and sunshine Tuesday morning.

| huge yellow - Found on top of Ridge slightly heading down toward river. It was amongst a variety of trees, but there were Ash and oak in between them. Lots of Pineneedles and a bunch of mayapples, Clubmoss, and ferns. Found a few hours after a strong morning thunderstorm rolled through. Temperature in the mid 60s.

| Found on 4/16/24 in low lying moist ground near a stream with dry leaf cover. 7 nice grey & 14 yellow. All were fresh except 3 that were dryer on the top. Lots of reason 2 days before then bright sunny day yesterday and partly cloudy today when I found them.
