Jackpot in Joliet! There’s gold in them thar hills...Hit the Jackpot in one forested area of Joliet! There were so many – mostly giant yellows – we had to stop foraging as we had no more room in our bags, shirts and pants – they were everywhere…
Found these on Sunday, May 19 after a rainy week and weekend (where temps were in the 70s) with only minimal periods of sun and temps fluctuating like a yo-yo between mid-70s for a day or two and dipping back into the 50s daytime and 40s in the night for a few days.
It seems it's been a lazy, late Spring blooming around these parts near Chicago, Illinois with cooler weather prevailing and had snow on April 27 where some areas saw 6-inches. We've also had ocean loads of rain with the local rivers overflowing their banks a few times now.
The season is winding down though as there were handfuls of Morels beginning to rot and not good to pick, and the ones that we did pick that were good, maybe 1/8-1/4 ended up having mold or rot spots inside once we cut them open.
